Nail Conditions and Treatments
Nail problems make up approximately 10 percent of dermatological conditions. Symptoms to look for to indicate if there is a problem are changes in the shape, color or thickness, bleeding, discharge, swelling of the skin surrounding the nail, and pain. Other problems that can arise are white spots after an injury, vertical lines, and bacterial infections.

Fungal infection and nails
Fungal infections are common especially in toenails because of the warm and moist environment. Problems with nails tend to increase throughout life affecting a large number of senior citizens. Although it is rare, a type of skin cancer called melanoma can form under the nail. It is most commonly known to create a dark-colored streak within the nail plate, if the discoloration does not improve or the size of the streak increases with time.
